Free State- Two people were killed in Bloemfontein on Thursday (19 November. 15) when two trucks collided and caught alight on the N8 between Bloemfontein and Kimberley. ER24 spokesperson Chitra Bodasing said at least two people sustained fatal burn injuries, leaving open the possibility that more may have been killed. “It was confirmed that there were two people who sustained burn injuries. Sadly there was nothing that could be done for them.

Authorities are on scene. It cannot be confirmed at this state if there were any other fatalities on scene,” Bodasing added.

  • KwaZulu-Natal In another incident, two people were killed and four others injured when a bus and car collided on the Madadeni/Osizweni Road near Amajuba.
  • Mpumalanga – Eighteen children were injured after their bus rolled in Sunbury on Wednesday (18 November 15). Scores of children sustained minor to moderate injuries from crawling out of the shuttered windows in attempts to free themselves from the remains of their bus by climbing through the buses shattered windows ER24 spokesperson Chitra Bodasing said the roof collapsed and the doors and windows broke leaving wreckage around the bus. They were treated on scene before being transported to hospital for further medical care.

Inferno tragedies and fatalities

Bloemfontein – A 10-year-old girl is in a critical condition after she desperately tried to rescue her 3-year-old twin sisters from the flames of a school bus that caught fire. The toddlers were in a school bus travelling from a crèche between Warden and Harrismith. Refiloe and Reneiloe, died while their brave sister sustained horrific facial burns as she tried in vain to save their lives. Free State education department spokesperson Howard Ndaba said 19 pupils who were injured were currently being treated at Thebe Hospital in Harrismith for further medical attention.  “The sister to the late twins was transferred to another hospital due to terrible facial burns she sustained while trying to save the twins. Apparently the bus driver could not apply the brakes and there was a terrible smell coming from the engine,” he said.

Struck by lightening

KwaZulu-Natal – On Wednesday night, a 16-year-old boy was left died after KZN Emergency Medical Services in the Ilembe district, responded to a rondavel in the Maphumulo area, when lightning struck and hit hime. It is believed that 17 men had gathered in a thatched roof rondavel and that they were watching soccer on TV, when the lightning struck the rondavel. The deceased had been sitting closet to the door and sadly passed away at the scene. Paramedics treated the 16 other men. Five of them were in a serious condition while the remaining men had sustained minor injuries and were most stunned and shocked.
